What is it?

Action for Neighbourhood Change (ANC) is about helping people who live and work in Toronto’s inner suburbs to make their neighbourhoods safer and healthier. There are four ANC projects starting in 2006.

ANC will create opportunities that enable all local residents – young, old, parents, singles, newcomers and long time residents to play a central role in shaping their neighbourhood.

The project is funded by the United Way of Greater Toronto and is operated in Mount Dennis by the Community Social Planning Council of Toronto.

What is ANC Mount Dennis going to do?

ANC wants to help people who care about this neighbourhood find one another and work on shared priorities – for example, to make a park safer, create an activity for children or strengthen local business. ANC will provide supports like training, tools or translation to turn those ideas into action.

Why ANC in Mount Dennis?

The area of Weston/Mt Dennis has been designated by the City of Toronto and the United Way as one of 13 priority neighbourhoods for additional programs and investment. This is because the area is experiencing growing levels of poverty and has few services to meet the needs of residents.

Everyone has a role to play to make a neighbourhood safer and healthier. Community engagement works best if it starts out focused in small area. In Mount Dennis, ANC will foster connections between people who live in the same building, or on the same street to make the whole neighbourhood stronger.
