City Budget Watch Update – January 14, 2011

The Budget Committee concluded their budget review with City Councillors today – almost.  Because analyst notes were not available for the Toronto Police Service (and by the look of the website, analyst notes also appear to be missing for the Toronto Transit Commission as well) due to recent changes in these budgets, an additional Budget Committee has been scheduled for Thursday, January 20 at 9:30 a.m. at City Hall in Committee Room 1.

Today’s Budget Committee meeting covered a number of agencies including Toronto Police Service and Toronto Transit Commission.  With regard to police services, TPS brought their requested increase down by delaying recruitment of new officers, cutting premium pay and reducing contribution to reserves.

Job posting for Program Assistant: Membership

Social Planning Toronto has a part-time (17.5 hours per week) position, with the possibility of additional hours (up to 35 hours/week), pro-rated and based on revenue generated.   This is a one-year contract, beginning January 3, 2011.  This position reports directly to the Executive Director.

Responsibilities and Job Duties:

The primary responsibility of this position will be soliciting new and renewed individual and organizational memberships for Social Planning Toronto, primarily by telephone follow-up.  It is anticipated that at least 75% of the time in this position will be spent making membership solicitation calls.

Related responsibilities will include:

  • Membership recruitment at selected SPC and partner events
  • Assisting with mailing related to SPC membership
  • Administrative and record-keeping directly related to SPC membership recruitment
  • Regular reporting on membership recruitment
