Translations of Toronto Community Resource Guide for Non-Status Immigrants – 2010 Edition Now Available for Download

Social Planning Toronto has released Chinese, English, Spanish and Tamil versions of the 2nd edition of the Toronto Community Resource Guide for Non-Status Immigrants. The resource guide is a directory of community services and programs in which residents lacking secure immigration status in Toronto can access, including health, housing, shelter, settlement, food banks and education. The resource guide contains over 130 different community agencies and organizations and lists over 170 office/service locations across the city.

Update – York South –Weston Local Immigration Partnership Project

York South –Weston Local Immigration Partnership Project Update: Townhall Meeting on September 22, 2010
Members of the York South-Weston Local Immigration Partnership (YS-W LIP) spent the late summer creating a strategic plan for a local integrated service delivery system for newcomers to the area. Planning by YS-W Local Immigration Partnership Council members incorporated data collected from consultations with service providers, employers and newcomers. Earlier in the summer, eleven newcomer focus groups were facilitated by the five ethno-specific partner members of the Local Immigration Partnership.
The YS-W LIP hosted another successful town hall meeting on September 22. The Town hall informed the community of the proposed service delivery plan and policy recommendations, and sought feedback from participants. Over seventy (thirty-five newcomers and thirty-five service providers ) attended. The presentation was translated into three languages and everyone participated in small discussion groups.
Next steps for the YS-W LIP included a training event – Building Successful Collaborations on October 7 and a Partnership Council meeting on October 21 to review draft reports and action plans. The final report will be submitted to Citizenship and Canada by the end of November and posted on Social Planning Toronto website.
