Throughout the budget cycle, there are lots of events that offer you the opportunity to learn more, get involved, and have your say — such as community-organized budget town halls, webinars and trainings, City Councillor budget town halls, and City of Toronto budget deputation sessions.

Speak to the Budget Committee about the tax-supported budget on Monday, January 24, or Tuesday, January 25, 2022. You must register by 4:30 p.m. on Friday, January 21, 2022. 

To register to speak, email [email protected] or call 416 392 4666. Indicate which date and time of day (morning, afternoon, or evening) you would prefer to speak. (Note: You can only make one presentation.) 

The meeting will be streamed live on the Toronto City Council YouTube channel. Registered speakers will be provided with instructions about how to join the meeting.

During the pandemic, Toronto City Council and committee meetings have been moved online. As Toronto deals with the greatest financial challenges it’s faced in decades and we all continue our work to build an equitable city, we need to continue to organize to win at City Hall.

How to Phone Bank for Our City

The City Budget will be voted on Thursday, February 17. Come to this training to learn how to phone bank, how to move people to action, and to phone people right then and there! We will be phoning people to encourage them to put pressure on their local councillors to vote for a better City Budget.

At Progress Toronto we know if enough of us act and put pressure on the Mayor and City Council, we can push them to build a better city that is livable for everyone. At this training, advisor and previous founding Organizer Mosheh Herdsman will join Leadership Manager Jessica Ireland help you learn about the best practices for urging people to take action, holding elected officials accountable, and building people-power!

On Tuesday, February 2 learn how to phone bank from home using our online tool and best practices on helping people take action for a better city.

Half of this workshop will be a training where you will become familiar with our online phone bank tool and how to move people to action, and in the second half of the workshop you will get a chance to put your new skills to practice and phone bank people across our city to take action. We will debrief after you make some calls!

For this online training you will need access to a computer and, if possible, headphones to make the calls.

This online training will be hosted on Zoom and the link will be provided to those who register.

On Thursday, February 17, Toronto City Council is meeting and the Mayor and City Councillors will be debating the 2022 City Budget.

The budget and other important decisions are made at City Council. Understanding how decision-making unfolds can help you think of tactics to influence the decisions being made.

Join Progress Toronto on Thursday, February 17 at 9:30AM via Zoom so we can watch City Council live together. While we watch the livestream, Progress Toronto will be there, online with you on our Zoom chat. We will be providing helpful info throughout the day, and can help to answer questions about process, timing, motions, and more!
