Speaking at Budget Committee is a powerful and impactful opportunity to share your story directly with councillors to let them know what you need to see in this year's budget. We all know what it's like to live in Toronto and should share that experience with decision-makers.

On January 22 and 23 the City's Budget Committee will be hosting public consultations that will directly impact the Mayor’s proposed budget that will be voted on February 14.

Speaking at a committee is also known as making a deputation. Deputations are an opportunity for you to tell locally elected politicians your opinions and experiences on issues they will be voting on.

Progress Toronto is excited to cohost this free training with the Toronto Youth Cabinet (TYC). On Monday, January 18 the Executive Director of TYC Stephen Mensah and Progress Toronto’s Executive Director Saman Tabasinejad will be leading our How to Speak at Budget Committee training.

At this workshop you will learn the basics of making a deputation. You will learn how to read the committee agenda, sign up for a deputation, and prepare an impactful deputation. Right now, deputations at the City of Toronto are taking place online and in person. We will also review how the deputation process works and how you can prepare.
