As part of the Gender Equity Consultations, SPT is hosting this group discussion on advancing gender equity through the lens of community safety. Together, we’ll unpack the concept of community safety as it relates to the needs of women and gender-diverse residents. This conversation will cover topics including but not limited to:
- What does a gender-responsive approach to community safety entail? How can it address issues of gender-based violence, racism, reconciliation, ableism, heteronormativity, and more?
- What key barriers/challenges do women and gender-diverse people face in accessing City programs and services safely?
- How could a gender-responsive approach to community safety address existing challenges in City Planning and development?
- How can the City improve/integrate the advancement of gender equity within existing policies and strategies addressing community safety?
The discussion will last approximately 2 hours, be held in English, and use Zoom virtual conferencing with closed captioning. The Zoom details will be sent one day before the session.
