Innovative Approaches to Employment Training

Employment training programs are gaining increased funding in response to rising unemployment rates. Among the employment training programs that already exist, there are often challenges in creating successful, inclusive programs that result in real employment opportunities. The event will feature three examples of innovative employment training programs that address some of these challenges.

Speakers will include:

  • Andrew Macdonald from Eva’s Phoenix discussing an employment training program for homeless and “at risk” youth at the organization’s on-site social enterprise – The Eva’s Phoenix Print Shop.
  • Janet Dassinger of UNITE HERE Canada discussing the training program that is being developed at 60 Richmond Street East for hospitality workers.
  • Peter Frampton from the Learning Enrichment Foundation discussing the Community Skills Development Fund, a program that aims to bridge eligibility gaps that exist within employment training programs.
