March Research & Policy Forum - Audio Clips

Social Planning Toronto's March 2009 Research & Policy Forum focused on issues relating to immigrant homeless and health & labour market outcomes for immigrants. Presenters include Dr. Stephen Hwang from St. Michael's Hospital/ University of Toronto who presented findings from the report entitled "The Health of Homeless Immigrants" & Dr. John Shields from Ryerson University who presented findings from the latest publications released by the Toronto Immigrant Employment Data Initiative (TIEDI). Dr. Stephen Hwang is an associate professor and Director of the Division of General Internal Medicine at the University of Toronto, and a research scientist at the Centre for Research on Inner City Health, St. Michael's Hospital, Toronto. Dr. Hwang's research studies have focused on homelessness and health, homeless people's use of health care, deaths among homeless people, and the links between housing and health. Dr. Hwang received his M.D. from the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine and his Master of Public Health degree from the Harvard School of Public Health.

John Shields is a professor in the Department of Politics and Public Administration where is also the Co-Director of the MA in Public Policy and Administration. He is a past Director of CERIS – The Ontario Metropolis Centre and currently he is the Editor of the Journal of International Migration and Integration (JIMI) published by Springer in Holland. His research and publications are focused on labour markets, the nonprofit sector and the public policy of restructuring.
