SPT welcomes new Executive Director, Jin Huh

Social Planning Toronto enthusiastically announces and welcomes Jin Huh as our new Executive Director.

Jin Huh

Jin is passionate about bringing people together across many axes of difference to find common ground, shared values, and a vision that all can be excited about and motivated to enact. From her work in grassroots organizing to nonprofit leadership roles, Jin has supported and led change efforts in communities, within organizations, and in multiple nonprofit sectors in the service of social, economic, and environmental justice. She has worked collaboratively with a broad range of residents, decision-makers, and others across the city. Jin has deep, grounded knowledge of how policies and government priorities impact marginalized communities and the agencies that work alongside them.

Jin has over two decades of experience in the nonprofit sector, with a mix of experience in community development, social planning, program development, nonprofit sector development, and organizational development/change management. Jin comes to us from North York Community House, where she held the position of Program Director. While there, Jin oversaw the community development, civic engagement, and place-based local neighbourhood development initiatives, as well as settlement services and many other programs and services. In her previous role as Organizational Development Director at Toronto Community Housing, she led organizational development functions by supporting the executive leadership team and designing/delivering programs in talent and performance management, staff learning and development, and organizational effectiveness. Jin has also held positions as Principal at her own consulting firm, multiple management roles at Toronto Community Housing, and as Organizational Standards Coordinator at the Ontario Council of Agencies Serving Immigrants (OCASI).

Jin has also worked in women’s and 2SLGBTQ+ health, adult and popular education, and community arts. She was co-editor of HanKut: Critical Art and Writing by Korean Canadian Women and was an anti-racism and anti-oppression educator. Jin currently serves on the Board of Toronto Environmental Alliance.

Jin holds a Master in Environmental Studies (social and political environments) from York University and an Honours Bachelor of Environmental Studies in Environment and Resource Studies from the University of Waterloo.

Social Planning Toronto looks forward to Jin joining in our work challenging inequality in our city through knowledge generation, debate, civic engagement, advocacy, and collaboration. Jin begins her new role with us on May 25, 2021.
