Workshop #1: Speaking with Media & Shaping your Message
Date: Tuesday, April 9
Time: 1:00 - 3:00 PM EST
Location: Zoom
As part of SPT's efforts to bring new urgency and commitment to ending poverty in Toronto, we are launching a workshop series to support community-based organizations to speak publicly about what ending poverty means for the communities they work with. This first workshop will provide the essential information on how to engage and respond to the media. It will provide an overview of what to expect and what to know about working with media outlets before doing an interview. It will also cover how to prepare for a media interview as a frontline worker and how you can support clients to take part in media interviews. This workshop will also provide an introduction on how to create and use strong social impact messaging.
Workshop facilitator: Kathryn LeBlanc is a social impact communications expert and Principal Consultant at LeBlanc (& co.) Communications. She brings a systemic change lens to her work in the nonprofit sector, community organizing, and with social movements. She is devoted to bringing an ethical and community-led approach to communications. Kathryn has held several communications management roles at nonprofits, worked alongside progressive politicians on Parliament Hill, and gained extensive experience working with the media.
