The Metcalf Foundation has released a very thoughtful paper by Innovation Fellow, Patricia Thompson called Being the Change We Want: A Conversation about Vocational Renewal for Nonprofit Leaders.

For the last several years, the Metcalf Foundation has been exploring how best to support nonprofit leaders in their work. Our various initiatives are grounded in the belief that non-profits play a critical role in imagining and building an equitable, just, and caring society. Yet, as we all know, opportunities for nonprofit leaders to develop new skills, perspectives, and knowledge, and strengthen their professional vitality are often severely limited, particularly at a time of funding challenges and in an environment of constraint and uncertainty.

The Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing, Jim Watson, has announced the launch of consultations on his government's long-promised Affordable Housing Strategy.

During the 2007 election, the Liberal Party promised, if re-elected, to create "a long-term strategy for affordable housing that contains a mix of non-profit and co-operative housing." These consultations are being used to get broad public input on the strategy.

Unemployed to Harper and Kent: “EI repairs needed now, not an election”

Prime Minister’s lack of leadership on EI could cost Canadians and economy $300 million

TORONTO—On Wednesday morning, hundreds of laid-off workers demonstrated outside of the constituency office of The Honourable Peter Kent, the only federal cabinet minister from Toronto. It was the fourth rally to fix the Employment Insurance program held since March by the Good Jobs for All Coalition – an alliance of more than 35 community, environmentalist, labour and student groups representing people throughout the Greater Toronto Area.

The John Howard Society of Toronto has launched Anger Management Toronto (www.angertoronto.ca) in response to an overwhelming need for Professional Development Training in the area of Anger Management for employees of small and mid-size businesses and, in particular their front line workers.

Capitalizing on the Society's over 20 years of experience in the field, Anger Management Toronto began as part of The John Howard Society of Toronto's Anger Management Program and from there developed into a separate Social Enterprise, with the primary objective to provide exceptional "train the trainer" training in the area of Anger Management to professionals in the Greater Toronto Area.
